How to Apply for WA Residential Battery Rebates

WA Residential Battery Rebates

Applications for rebates and loans under the WA Battery Scheme are now open.

What is a Residential Battery?
A residential home battery stores electricity for later use. It does this by charging up when there is cheap excess electricity and discharging energy when the grid is busy and electricity is more expensive.

What is the WA Residential Battery Scheme?
The WA Residential Battery Scheme allows you to access a rebate and/or a no-interest loan to purchase and install a battery to power your home.

WA Residential Battery Rebates
The WA Government’s scheme is in addition to the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program. On a 10kWh battery applicants are eligible for a combined rebate of:

  • $5,000 for Synergy customers
  • $7,500 for Horizon Power customers

No-interest loans
No-interest loans will also be available for up to $10,000 to households with a combined annual income of less than $210,000. Loan repayment periods will be up to 10 years.

To receive a battery rebate and/or no-interest loan through the scheme, eligibility requirements apply, including participation in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

What is a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)?
A Virtual Power Plant, or VPP, connects, coordinates and stores the power generated by household solar panels, batteries, and other energy resources to be used to support the electricity needs of the community.

How do residential batteries help me and my community?
Through VPPs, households will be able to sell energy stored in their battery back to the market. VPP’s help the community by:

  • balancing supply and demand
  • offering financial benefits to participating households
  • helping WA’s clean energy transition
